Blood Donation Vital for Accident Victims and Critically Ill Patients, Says Dr. Mayank Somani

Lucknow: Marking World Blood Donor Day, a blood donation camp was organized at Apollo Medics Hospital in Lucknow, drawing enthusiastic participation from doctors, hospital staff, and volunteers. More than 50 units of blood were collected during the camp, strengthening the hospital’s blood reserves for patients in need.

The initiative was aimed at raising awareness about the importance of blood donation and encouraging more people to become voluntary blood donors. Hospital officials emphasized that an adequate supply of blood is essential for healthcare institutions, as a single unit of donated blood can help save multiple lives and support the treatment of various medical conditions.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mayank Somani, Managing Director and CEO of Apollo Medics Hospital, highlighted the critical role of voluntary blood donors in the healthcare system.

“Every day, we encounter patients for whom timely access to blood can mean the difference between life and death. Blood is continuously required for accident victims, major surgeries, cancer treatments, and patients suffering from serious illnesses. Voluntary blood donors form an indispensable part of our medical infrastructure,” Dr. Somani said.

He urged healthy citizens to make blood donation a regular habit, stressing that a simple act of generosity can provide hope and life-saving support to patients facing medical emergencies.

The blood donation camp witnessed active participation from healthcare professionals and volunteers who came forward to contribute to the cause. Organizers noted that regular blood donation not only helps maintain adequate blood stocks but also ensures that hospitals are better prepared to respond to emergencies and critical healthcare needs.

World Blood Donor Day is observed annually to recognize the contributions of voluntary blood donors and to promote safe blood donation practices worldwide. Healthcare experts continue to stress that a steady supply of donated blood remains essential for emergency care, surgeries, maternal health services, and the treatment of chronic diseases.

The successful camp at Apollo Medics Hospital served as a reminder of the life-saving impact of blood donation and reinforced the message that every donation has the potential to save lives and strengthen the healthcare system.
